Howard Donald Calderwood, 86, of Port Orchard, WA died Feb 13, 2013 at the Retsil Veterans Home. Howard was born Sept 26, 1926 in Kansas City, MO to Donald Scott and Mary Esther (Bailey) Calderwood. In his childhood years he moved to Oregon and lived in Salem, Saint Paul, Oregon City, Milwaukie and Portland. He attended Milwaukie High School for two years and completed the General Course of Study at Benson Polytechnic High School in 1947. Howard was an electrician and in sales the majority of his working career. He married Aileen Mae Allphin on Oct 25, 1947 at Sacred Heart in Portland, OR. She preceded him in death Oct 8, 2001. Together they lived in Milwaukie, OR, Vancouver, WA, Kelso WA and Ocean Park WA. He then moved to Kitsap County where he spent his remaining two years at the Veterans Home in Port Orchard where he said he was the “happiest man on earth”. He loved the staff and fellow veterans and they loved him back.
Howard was a WWII Veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he completed Military Education as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic.
Howard was an active member at First Lutheran Church in Port Orchard, Rocking Chair Clark County Amateur Radio Club in Vancouver, WA (K7DYG) and enjoyed bowling and golfing. He loved people and the Lord.
He is survived by his sister Elsie Anabel Cooley; daughters Laura (Jim) Mituniewicz, Ann (Charles) Jarrett; sons Donald Jay (Sue), James Scott and Howard Mark Calderwood; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Aileen and sister Helen Esther Lorenz.
Graveside service will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR on March 12, 2013, at 1:30 P.M. Online memorial at
