Howard L. Vandeventer, age 79, died January 11, 2000 in Port Orchard, WA. He was born June 21, 1920 in Perry, Iowa to John & Golda (Martens) Vandeventer. He moved to Wilmington, CA at the age of 9 and graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, CA in 1937. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945. He married Ruth (Bodily) Vandeventer in San Diego, CA on October 14, 1944. Most recently he worked as a long shoreman foreman in California and Seattle, WA., and after 35 years he retired in 1985. For the last 18 years he worked as a foreman in Seattle, WA., for Sealand. He was a member of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Vandeventer is survived by his wife Ruth of Port Orchard, WA., son David Vandeventer of Massachusetts, daughter Kris Ann Riddle of Port Orchard, WA., sister Leila Rhoads of Portis, Kansas, grandchildren Marna, Zachary and Sara Riddle of Port Orchard, WA., and great grandson Jakob of Port Orchard, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held at the Bremerton Stake Center of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Orchard on Mullenix Road. Services will be held Friday, January 14, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Park in Bellevue, WA., January 14, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Kitsap Unit, PO Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.
