Humphrey Haines Gehring

February 21, 1941 — October 15, 2024

Humphrey was born in Kalispell, Flathead County, Montana February 21, 1941, to Humphrey Haines Smith and Cordelia Henneman Smith. The family moved to Port Orchard, Washington in 1943.

Humphrey was a member of the South Kitsap Class of 1960. Humphrey and Judy Mae Petty were married in 1965. Together, they had two daughters, Jeannine and Deena. He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren Michael and Kaylee, and great grandchildren Zoey and Lilee Mae.

Humphrey was employed as a cook for over 50 years. He worked at several restaurants including the Beach Comber, Scandiagaard, Larsons on Perry Avenue in Bremerton, Lakeshore Inn and for 25 years at the V.I.P. on Kitsap Way in Bremerton.

Humphrey was part of a large family, and will be missed by sisters Lorraine Mahoney of Yakima, Patricia Levenseller of Tacoma, Wilma Jordan of Port Orchard, and brother Joe Gehring of Tacoma. He was preceded in death by brothers Lee of Libby Montana, Dean, Buck, and Lonnie of Port Orchard; Sisters Louise Ness of Port Orchard and Nancy Gingrey of California.

There will be a memorial service at First Lutheran Church, Port Orchard on Sunday, October 27th at 1:00pm.
