Ian Malcolm Hinely

September 11, 1976 — June 14, 2015

Adventurous, fun-loving, kind, dedicated, quick-witted, genuine, hard-working and loving are just a few words to describe Ian Malcolm Hinely, who passed away on June 14, 2015, in Seattle, WA at the age of 38. Born on September 11, 1976, to his parents Eileen Kydd Corpus and William Hinely, Ian started his life in San Francisco, CA. He spent a few cold winters in Adak, AK and hot summers in Grand Prairie, Texas before mom, Pops (Alfredo Corpus), sister Grace and brother Andrew transplanted themselves to Port Orchard, WA. Ian grew up in Port Orchard where he met some of his best lifelong friends (especially Brandon LeMay and “Ony” Graham). He was surrounded by an extended family of friends in Port Orchard who spent many days and summer evenings in the backyard, hanging out near campfires and trekking around “PO.” Ian graduated from South Kitsap in 1995.
Ian attended Shoreline Community College and began his career as a Honda Technician at West Hills Honda in Bremerton. In the over 11 years Ian spent as a tech at West Hills, he laughed and joked as many hours as he billed work. Ian deeply valued his days at West Hills and the crew --- all of you, especially you Randy Fort. Somehow, he converted from a die-hard Guns-n-Roses fan to country western music at West Hills. How did that happen?
On New Year’s Eve 2005, Ian met a Buffalo-born gal who transplanted to Seattle named Mary. After months of dating Mary and taking the ferry (“love boat”) across Puget Sound, Ian moved to Seattle. He took a leap of faith leaving Kitsap County. He started to work at Acura of Seattle and converted to a trendy Seattleite, drinking expensive coffee and eating sushi. He had the opportunity to work with another great crew of coworkers. Ian embraced his new adventure and even ran two half-marathons. In April 2008, Mary and Ian were married on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, surrounded by loving friends and family (good times!).
In May 2010, Ian took another leap of faith and began a new career journey. He got accepted into PIMA Medical Institute’s Radiological Technician program and completed his Associates degree in December 2012. Ian became an ARRT Certified Radiological Technologist in January 2013. He went from talking about timing belts and catalytic converters to ischiums and metatarsals. In June 2013, he joined Highline Medical Center (CHI Franciscan Health, Burien), as a Certified Rad Tech. He immediately fit in with his co-workers and loved working at Highline. He was surrounded by an incredible, committed and fun team at Highline. He loved going to work and coming home and using big medical terminology that no one outside of healthcare understands. Over the 18 months, Ian had other great opportunities to work in Interventional Radiology (IR) and to pursue his training in Computed Tomography (CT). He became a certified CT Tech in February 2015 and was willing to work whatever hours he could doing CT. Ian was extremely proud to be an R.T.(CT)(ARRT).
Those who had the opportunity to know Ian will remember him for his loveable, silly, fun-loving personality and warm, kind heart. Ian was always surrounded by great friends, family and co-workers. He was a devoted Seahawks fan and loved hanging out with friends/family and his 3 cats (Mama Samantha, Trixie and Toby). He recently started cycling and exploring bike trails throughout Seattle.
Ian is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Barilec), his mom Eileen Kydd Corpus and his “Pops” Alfredo Corpus, his father William Hinely and second mom Julie, sister Grace (Dedrick), brother Drew, stepsiblings Delilah and David, his fabulous nieces (Nicole, Emily, Christine, Jessica and Piper) and Lil’ strudel nephew Ian. He will be greatly missed by his many aunts, uncles and cousins nearby, in the US and in Montrose, Scotland. A special thanks to his support crew: Dan Wolf, Catherine Heath, Marty Couret, and Dave VanDusen.
