On November 13th, 2015 at approximately 3am, our mom, wife, Omi, and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep, exactly where she would have wanted to… in her home. She leaves behind a legacy filled with her passion for her family, kids, and grandchildren in both her personal and professional life.
Ingrid was born on March 1, 1939 in Hamburg, Germany, daughter of Hans & Marta Mueller and brother to Ingo. Unfortunately, she lost her father at a very young age, on the battlefields of World War II, and never got to know him. Raised by a single mom in the heart of Hamburg, Ingrid developed a love for gymnastics, which shaped her future love for fitness and competitive nature. As she finished her studies and before embarking on a career in the financial industry, possibly as a stockbroker or like path, she had a need to explore the world and set out to experience America through the eyes of a young and adventurous woman.
After arriving in New York City via ship, she ventured across the country to settle into a job sewing tents in Portland, Oregon to help support herself in her one year sabbatical. Little did she know, she was about to meet her future husband, Peter E. Freyman, and it would change her life forever… thankfully creating the life we all knew, positively influencing the thoughts and emotions of family, young children, and friends over a lifetime in the United States.
On July 23rd, 1966, Ingrid married Peter in route to 49 years of anniversaries and memories that will live on in the hearts of all those that knew her. In 1969 and 1971 respectively, she gave birth to her son Eric and her daughter Imka. Realizing her love for her children and seeing her husband flourish in his teaching career, she embarked on earning her degree and teaching certificate from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. In 1977, Ingrid began substitute teaching in the South Kitsap School District in Port Orchard, WA, which eventually landed her a full time position teaching 1st graders at South Colby Elementary School. Her talents and passions for working with troubled kids led her to continue her education and earn an MA in Psychology from St. Martins University in Lacey, WA, which opened up the opportunity to help kids through the reading recover program and eventually as a full time counselor at South Colby and Sidney Glen Elementary schools. When her career came to a close, she had spent 27 years teaching, counseling, and loving children throughout the South Kitsap area.
Retirement in 2004 allowed her to live out her other passions in life ranging from her love for fitness at home and at her health club, extensively traveling throughout the world, spending endless hours with her five grandchildren, and building her dream retirement home with Peter at her side. Her travels allowed her to walk the Great Wall of China, climb the Pyramids in Egypt, and soak up the sun in nearly sunny destination you can imagine. She would eventually pass away peacefully in her sleep in her Belfair dream home and leave all of us with a life time of amazing memories.
Ingrid is survived by her husband Peter, son Eric, daughter Imka, and grandchildren Kelly, Nicholas, Alexa, Jacob, and Sarah. We thank God for blessing all of us with her life and how she influenced all of us to be who we are today!
