Isabelle Zimmerman

Isabelle E. Zimmerman of Belfair, Washington died of natural causes February 29, 2004 in Port Orchard, Washington. She was 97. She was born October 3, 1906 in Kramer, North Dakota to Louis Sonnenberg and Elizabeth (Wagner) Sonnenberg. She graduated from Boutineau County High School North Dakota in 1924. Isabelle attended Minot State Teacher's College in Minot, North Dakota; and, graduated from Seattle University in Seattle, Washington with a B.S. in Education. She taught at the elementary school level: 5 years in one-room school in North Dakota, 20 years in Seattle, plus 20 years as a substitute teacher in Coolidge, Arizona and 2 years in North Mason and was a reading tutor for 6 1/2 years. She taught 47 years. She enjoyed teaching children to read! Isabelle was a Lutheran. She was preceded in death by her husband - Robert Lee Zimmerman in 1972. Isabelle is survived by step-son - Dale P. Zimmerman; daughters - Carrene M. Wood (& husband, Donald) of Grapeview, Washington, Koralee Ann Arnell (& husband, Neil) of Fountain Hill, Arizona; grandchildren (6): Lesa G. Wyatt (& husband, Robert) of Spanaway, Washington, Debra L. Venis of Belfair, Washington, Daina M. Johnson (& husband, James) of Tacoma, Washington, Wendy D. Kelly (& husband, Kevin) of Gig Harbor, Washington, Robyn L. Brenden (& husband, Steven) of Phoenix, Arizona, Kristine N. Arnell of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandchildren (9); Great/great-grandchildren (5). She was preceded in death by brothers - Victor and Morris Sonnenberg, sisters - Claudia McCullogh and Orpha (Babe) Philpot. A memorial service will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Washington on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at Washington Memorial in SeaTac.
