Mr. Ivan L. Kvistad, also known as, John J. Pepper, died of natural causes on July 27, 2001, at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was 71 years old.Mr. Kvistad(Pepper) was born on May 10,1930 to Oscar A. Kvistad and Tessie L. (Burns) in Bremerton.He graduated from Bremerton High School; California School of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, California; and Olympic College in Bremerton.He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, achieving the rank of Private First Class. He received a discharge under Honorable Conditions. Mr. Kvistad(Pepper) later worked as a Funeral Director and Ordnanceman on Subase Bangor, Washington. He was divorced at the time of his death.Mr. Kvistad(Pepper)enjoyed motorcycles and old movies.He is survived by a son, Lynn Kvistad of Oregon; daughters Linda Kelly of Poulsbo, Washington, andAnna Carter of Port Orchard; brothers, Jack Kvistad of Bremerton, and Ed Kvistad of Silverdale, Washington; sister, Allene Ramirez of Chelan, Washington; nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He had been preceded in death by a son, Larry Kvistad.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1,2001 from 10 a.m.until 5 p.m., and on Thursday, August 2, 2001 from 9 a.m. until noon at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2001, at 1 p.m., at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton. The Reverend Larry Mead will be officiating.
