Jack D. Woodard, 58, of Port Orchard, WA, passed away on December 21, 2022.
Born on July 17, 1964 in Lincoln, IL to Jack Woodard Sr. and Anna (Pozsgai) Bunner, Jack began his tradition of fostering lifelong friendships early in his childhood. He and his sister, Tammy Aulgur, enjoyed an upbringing close to their extended family that included trips overseas to visit relatives in Hungary. Jack often went hunting with his father and played on the football team at Lincoln Community High School.
At the age of 18, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served four years and met his lifelong friend-turned-family, Todd Blackburn. After finishing his military service, Jack moved to Washington where he lived for the remainder of his life and began working as a Firefighter. Over his 35 years of public service, he progressed to hold the roles of Public Safety Dispatcher, Union Official, Fire Officer, Fire Commissioner, and eventually Regional Fire Chief of Naval Region Northwest, a position which he retired from only weeks before his passing.
Jack loved golf, the Chicago Bears, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Seattle Kraken, cooking meals large enough to feed the whole firehouse, camping, and giving bear hugs to new and old friends who alike quickly turned into his family. He was a force of dedication, compassion, and love, and his passing leaves a hole in his family and community that exemplifies the life of service he led. Jack will be remembered fondly for the love he showed everyone who was lucky enough to know him, who now carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Woodard; his daughter, Erica (Shahab) Shekari; his son Garrett (Heather) Woodard; his bonus daughters of the heart Whitney (Stephen) Glebe; Mallory (Michael) Glebe; his father, Jack Woodard Sr (Judy); his sister, Tammy (Ken) Aulgur; and his nieces Teal Victoria and Marissa Aulgur.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Bunner; his step-father, Tom Bunner; his sister Amy Jo Woodard; and his grandniece Kaiyanna Victoria.
A celebration of life for Jack will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the US Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, WA. A reception will follow at McCormick Woods Clubhouse.
