Jackie Washburn

June 21, 1932 — December 6, 2020

Jack was born in Ripley Illinois to Frank and Hazel. Two brothers Bill and Jim preceded him in death. His sister Betty resides in California. He worked the family farm and in his teen years, worked with racehorses. He became a Marine at 18 and most notably was assigned to the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton Washington. He also was stationed in Adak Alaska staged to go to the Korean War. He met Mary Bland at a barn dance in Belfair Washington. They were married 68 years. Jack was a Sears service repairman for many years and owned his own repair business. Father of son Dan in 1957 and then twin daughters Karyn and Kathy in 1960. Jack built a house on Tiger Lake. Jack was active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance church in Bremerton. He served on the board and as usher. He was always the first one there and the last one to leave. He believed in the God of the bible and was always ready to share his faith with others as well. He always had a tract to pass out. He was consistently in a good mood. He loved people from kids to elderly. He was always helping people. He wanted to be sure they knew about Jesus. Starting from a knuckle bump to a little one to just asking “do you go to church”. He had many little sayings like “I’m so mad I could squeeze a grape” (with a smile on his face). He loved to whistle and sing. He loved his family and adored his grandkids. He and his Marine buddy Marty would collect cans. Not just a few cans but garbage bags full of flattened cans. They would redeem them at a recycle place and use the money to send kids to bible camp. Jack would gather with friends down at the Family Pancake House. Jack did woodworking from cabinet making to turning wood on a lathe. In later years he was involved with the Harper Evangelical Free church. Ushering and helping with repairs. His passing December 6, 2020 was brought on by dementia. He will be missed greatly by friends and family who remember the happy man he was.
