Jackie was born on October 7, 1940 in Seattle, Washington, to parents Christian and Dorothy Schille. Jackie was part of a large family and cherished her siblings and relatives, and she graduated from Roosevelt High School (Seattle) in 1958.
After high school, Jackie was hired for the flight-testing department at Boeing and spent 13 years there, including multiple stints working on-site at Edwards Air Force Base in the early 1960s. She also had a love for sports cars and owned many classic models, including a 1968 Jaguar XK-E that they kept and drove for many years. Jackie was an avid outdoorsperson and was a member of the Seattle Mountaineers.
It was at Boeing where she met her future husband, Michael Norris; the couple was married on September 19, 1969 in Seattle. Jackie and Mike initially lived in West Seattle, then moved to the south Kitsap County community of Manchester in June of 1971, where they lived together until Mike’s death in 2021. For the past two years, Jackie lived in a retirement community in neighboring Gig Harbor.
Jackie “retired” from her career at Boeing and dedicated her time to being a mother and wife, but her natural instincts for learning and creativity stayed with her throughout her life. She initially worked as a volunteer in the libraries of Manchester Elementary School, John Sedgwick Junior High School, and South Kitsap High School before being hired full-time on the library staff at SKHS. She worked diligently for many years at both SKHS and at Cedar Heights Junior High School and was known for her creativity, passion for education, and dedication to finding unique resources for students.
Above all, Jackie was best known for her artistic abilities and passion for mastering different media. Jackie was known for her beautiful stained-glass creations that she gave to friends and sold at local craft fairs. Later, she turned her attention to rubber stamp artwork, a passion she continued through her life. Jackie was also an accomplished quilter and needleworker, sharing her many creations generously with friends and family.
Jackie and Mike enjoyed traveling and camping together, beginning with tent camping but evolving through a variety of recreational vehicles over the years, frequently visiting campsites on the Olympic Peninsula and western Washington but also spanning more broadly. Their greatest journey together was through mainland Mexico, which included the Copper Canyon, although they enjoyed many trips to Arizona, Colorado, and elsewhere. The couple also had many dogs and cats over the years.
Jackie was a devoted wife and mother, and is survived by her two sons: Doug Norris lives with his wife Colleen (in Golden, Colorado) with daughter Vivian, son Bruce, and daughter Leah, and Dan Norris lives with his wife Katheryn (in Prosser, Washington) with daughters Hannah and Elizabeth.
