James E. Carter, 93, of Manchester died March 2, 1999 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was born November 21, 1905 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Lorenzo and Dorothy(Hutchinson) Carter. He was raised in Glascow, Montana and graduated from Hillard High School in Spokane, Washington. He married Mabel Bush in Seattle, Washington in 1930.His most recent job was as a supervisor at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where he worked for 33 years before retiring in 1966. After retirement, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources for 7 years. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church for 47 years, past president of NARFE, a scout master, was on the South Kitsap School Board from 1962-1966, Scottish Rite Life Member, and a past master of the Masonic Lodge #98. He also loved fishing, golf, and bowling. He is survived by his wife; son Jim Carter of Chelan, WA.; daughters Jeanette Olson of Arizona, Dorothy Smith of Port Orchard, WA.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be March 5, 1999 at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, WA., from 9-5p.m. Memorial services will be at Elim Lutheran Church, in Port Orchard, WA., on March 6, 1999 at 2:30 p.m.
