James W. Pommier, 86, a resident of Port Orchard, died January 28, 2012. He was born in Lignite, ND on the family farm to Fred and Muriel (Bunting) Pommier, the 4th of 5 children. He graduated from Lignite High School in North Dakota and obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees from St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, CO. He served in the United States Army during WWII, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his tour of duty he entered the Catholic Priesthood and was ordained in 1954. He served in several Parishes in SW North Dakota including New Liepzig, where he was instrumental in construction and dedication of the new church facilities. He also served as a Hospital Chaplain at St. Joseph’s in Minot, ND for 12 years. He moved to Port Orchard in 1976 and for many years he served Mass at the Keyport Chapel. He worked at Naval Supply Center, Puget Sound from where he retired. He enjoyed music, cooking, sewing and painting and was quite talented in all of those areas. He was also very much a humanitarian and one that would help anyone for any reason any time. He was preceded in death by brother Gaylen Pommier and Sister Lila Nelson. Celebration of Life will be at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Thursday, February 2nd at 3:00 pm, viewing from noon to 2:45 prior to service. Final resting place will be Tahoma national Cemetery in Kent, WA at a later date. He is survived by his brother Russell Pommier of OR and sister Mavis Kalmbach of Bremerton and numerous nieces and nephews.
