Jan Westergaard

Jan O. Westergaard, 79 of Port Orchard, died at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Washington on August 18, 2005. He was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on January 4, 1926 to Cornelis & Maria (Schouten) Westergaard. He grew up and was educated in the Netherlands. Jan married Winny Van Hek on August 23, 1980 in Chula Vista, California. Jan worked for 26 years as Director of Food Services in San Diego, California, retiring in 1990. He served in the Dutch Army from 1946 to 1960 as a Mess Sargeant in Indonesia and the Netherlands. Jan enjoyed gardening, woodworking, arts & crafts. Surviving are his wife Winny; daughter Deborah Clark (david) of San Diego; his "loving adopted children" Ingrid Goossens (Jack) and Eric Emans (Debi) all of Port Orchard and Wilma DeKorne (Jack) of New Town, Connecticut; brother Cornelius L. Westergaard of Netherlands; grandchildren Damon, David, Randy & wife Joni, Jeff & wife Angela, Jessica & husband Mel, Marsha & husband Charles, Mark & wife Heidi, Coralie & husband Josh, Joel & wife Daisey; great-grandchildren Olivia, Emma, Isabella, Caleb & Sydney; and special friends Jan & Jose Van Arensbergen. Visitation at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Saturday, August 20, 2005 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and Sunday, August 21, 2005 from 11:00 am to service time. Funeral service Sunday, August 21, 2005 at 1:00 pm at Rill's Life Tribute Center. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 2:00 pm.
