Jay Marvin Hatch

December 6, 1935 — October 4, 2024

Jay Marvin Hatch, born on December 6, 1935, in Bremerton, Washington, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, at the age of 88. Jay was a dedicated educator, accomplished musician, and devoted family man whose life touched many through his service and passions.

He attended schools in the Pateros, Brewster, and South Kitsap School Districts, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1954. Jay pursued his love of teaching, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Western Washington College of Education. He served in the U.S. Navy before becoming an elementary music teacher and then a junior high special education teacher, retiring from the South Kitsap School District after many years of dedication to his students.

Jay’s love for music was a central part of his life. Throughout high school and college, he was a member of various dance bands, showcasing his talents as a trumpet player. He also played with the Bremerton Symphony for many years, contributing his musical gifts to the local community.

An avid traveler, Jay and his wife, Helen, explored the United States by motorhome, a journey that led them to visit all 50 states and camp at least one night in each state.

Jay was a longtime member of Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully as an Elder and Church Treasurer.

Jay was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Tim) deLacy and Mary Anne (Don) Van Doornik, and his grandsons, Joshua, Benjamin, and Mark. His family will remember him for his love and support.

Per Jay’s request, there will be no formal service. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Bremerton WestSound Symphony, an organization that held special meaning for him.

Jay's legacy of music, education, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
