Gerald C. Pollard (Jerry), 75, passed away at home in Gig Harbor, WA on December 19, 2009. Born in Foley, Minnesota on September 10, 1934 Jerry was one of eleven children of James and Myrtle Pollard. Jerry joined the US Navy in 1953 and proudly served aboard both Diesel-Electric and Nuclear powered Submarines during his 22 years of military service. In the summer of 1957 he married Mary Jane Hughes of Noank, Connecticut. Jerry and Jane enjoyed a loving and special relationship for more than 52 years. Jerry and Jane were blessed with five sons and a daughter. He is survived by his soul mate and loving wife Jane; sons James, and Jeffery (Julie), both of Noank, CT, Joseph (Rebecca) of Pawcatuck, CT, Jay, John (Trisha), and daughter Jenee (Tony) Gehler of Port Orchard, WA, ten Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren, his mother Myrtle of Montana, brothers Thomas of Seattle, Robert of Idaho, sisters Maryann and Donna of Montana, Jean of Georgia, and Joyce of Colorado. Jerry was preceded in death by his father James and four siblings. Following his 22 years of military service his career included 4 years with RCA in New London, CT and another 10 years with Vitro Laboratories in Silverdale, WA before retiring to the things he loved to do. He cherished and enjoyed his family, traveling with the love of his life and his poodles Pepper, Max, and Lilly, volunteering at many of Washington’s state parks, card games with family and friends, golf, fishing, sailing, and woodworking among many other interests. He truly lived a very full and rewarding life. Dad you are loved and will be missed by all who knew you. In lieu of flowers the family requests any remembrances be made to the Make-A- Wish Foundation of Seattle, Washington; 811 First Avenue, Suite 520, Seattle, Washington, 98104, in remembrance of Gerald C. Pollard. A viewing will be held December 29th, 2:30 to 4:00PM at Rill Chapel, 1151 Mitchell Ave, Port Orchard. Catholic Mass will be held December 30th, 11:00AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 1150 Mitchell Ave, Port Orchard, WA 98366. Prior to the Mass there will be a Military Honors Ceremony at Rill Chapel at 9AM; a viewing at St. Gabriel at 10AM followed by a Rosary at 10:30. Following the Service and Remembrance Ceremony the family invites those who knew and loved Jerry to join them for a reception also and St. Gabriel.
