Jerry Lee Trogdon

Jerry Lee Trogdon, 94, of Port Orchard, Washington, passed away on October 20, 2024, at home.

Jerry was born on September 14, 1930, in Pittsburg, Kansas to Edgar Ray and Florence (Hollingsworth) Trogdon. Due to the dust bowl and hard economic times the family sold their farm and moved to Kitsap County. Jerry graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1949. He was a Boy Scout and staffed at Camp Parsons for several years. He was a member of the swing and marching bands at South Kitsap High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a gunner’s mate on the naval destroyer USS Boyd. He married his sweetheart Jeanne Bodle March 1, 1958. After his military service, he apprenticed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter. He obtained additional education, which allowed him to become a non-nuclear Chief Test Engineer Code 365 PSNS. He retired from PSNS in 1986 and then went to work for AMSEC. Jerry was an avid fisherman and hunter well into his 80’s. He coached and managed several little league baseball teams for South Kitsap Eastern Little League. He taught hunter education classes for the department of fish and game for several years in the South Kitsap area. Jerry was a reserve police officer for the city of Port Orchard. He enjoyed being a square dance caller. He and his wife Jeanne taught many square dance lessons over the years. Jerry was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles and the VFW.

Jerry was predeceased by his father, mother, brother Maurice and wife Jeanne. He is survived by his sister Shirley Stwalley of Tucson, AZ; his children Ron (Kari) Trogdon, David (Susan) Trogdon and Sandra (Timm) Gleason; grandchildren Jennifer, Tyler, Kaleb, Lisa, Erik, Logan and step-grandchildren Anthony and Joseph; 11 great grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you donate to either South Kitsap Helpline @ skhelpline.org or Chief Seattle Council Scouting America https://seattlebsa.org/donate/memorials/ .
