Joan died peacefully on Monday, June 12th, surrounded by her family. Daughter of Josephine and Fred Pitcher, Joan graduated from Lincoln High School, and University of Washington School of Pharmacy. She was an active pharmacist for over 50 years, and took great pride in her work. For the last 30 years, she worked at South Park Pharmacy, and deeply valued her relationships with her co-workers and the people she served. Joan was married to Dr. Nicholas Skalabrin for 58 years, and had six children: Theresa, Deborah, Paul, Mark, Elaine and Steven, and thirteen grandchildren. She was a member of Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Church, where she initiated the preschool program. Joan volunteered for numerous charitable organizations, and was instrumental in changing the lives of many people.
Hiking in the Olympic Mountains brought her great joy. She also loved cross-country skiing and canoeing. The family wishes to thank everyone for all their prayers.
A mass will be held for Joan at Saint Gabriel’s on Saturday, June 17th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research in Seattle.
