Joann Rennie Cahan

January 9, 1941 — June 12, 2024

Joann Rennie Cahan passed away on June 12, 2024 at the age of 83. Joann was the only child of Anne & Joseph Rennie, beloved wife of Peter Cahan for 62 years, caring mother of Laura Johnson (Steve), Rennie Dennehy (Denis), and Heidi Anderson (Guy) and a wonderful Nini to 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Joann moved to Seattle from North Carolina at 7 and lived in Magnolia attending St. Margaret's Grade School and then graduating the 8th Grade from Our Lady of Fatima in its inaugural year. A life-long catholic, she was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Magnolia for over 60 Years and then Prince of Peace in Belfair for the last 20+ years. Joann lived life fully, enjoying skiing with our family locally and on family ski vacations as well as many years on the Magnolia Ladies Ski Bus. She learned to sail, racing with Peter on their 110 Sailboat and then cruising the San Juans with her family. She even learned to golf in retirement while spending winters in Indian Wells. She loved reading books for her book club of nearly 50 years and volunteering in all her communities, most recently the Grapeview Backpack Program and the Prince of Peace Rosary-Making Group. Joann attended the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. She worked full time until her daughters were born and then shifted to part-time. Joann loved her career and spent over 30 years working at dental practices on Queen Anne Hill. But most of all, Joann cherished her time with family and friends. She enjoyed hosting small and large gatherings at their homes in Magnolia, Indian Wells and Stretch Island. She especially loved our big family gatherings for holidays, birthdays or just a Saturday night dinner. A ray of sunshine who loved everyone around her, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church at 1171 NE Sandhill Rd in Belfair, WA, on Saturday, June 22nd. The rosary will be said at 10:30am, with the funeral service commencing at 11am. Please join us for a reception to celebrate Joann’s life following the funeral at Prince of Peace for a final party with all the people she loves!
