John Bucholz was born June 6, 1925 in Red Lake, MN to Ester Beaudrow. A few years later, Ester married Chester Meyers who was a good father to John and raised him as his own. He had 4 younger siblings; Don, Earl, Lorraine and Rose Marie Meyers. At 16, he joined the ranks of many Native Americans who served in the 30’s – 40’s in the Civil Conservation Corps.
A year later, in 1942, John entered the Navy. During his Navy career, he spent time on every continent. John was a WWII and Korean War Veteran. He received bronze and silver metals for each and took part in many other campaigns.
In 1951, John met and married Marie Lawrence. Together they had a son, John N and 2 daughters, Carmen and Paula. John retired from the Navy in 1964 as a Chief Petty Officer. Soon after, John entered the Civil Service, where he worked for 15 years as an Ordinance Systems Inspector for Bangor, Keyport and Indian Island.
After the breakup of his marriage, John met the love of his life, Eunice Brown, while at the officers club. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 1975 and were married 44 years! Eunice had 3 daughters, Terry, Diane and Vicky who loved and accepted him like a dad. John was also loved and warmly welcomed into Eunice’s large extended family.
Many years later, John was able to care for Eunice after her cancer diagnosis and many physical challenges that followed with the help of her 2 daughters, Terry and Diane. This allowed them to stay in their home as John was loosing his sight due to macular degeneration as well as other physical challenges. Eunice passed in 2019 at age 89. This was a very difficult time for John emotionally as well as physically. Several moths later, his son, John Nolen and wife Lisa moved in to help care for him. John’s health improved and he was able to continue living at home.
John was an active member of North Bay Lutheran Church where he was well loved. When things reopened after the Covid shutdown, the Lorenz family faithfully picked him up for church services and events when he was able to go.
In August, after having Covid, John’s heath declined rapidly due to complications. John was able to be home during his remaining days until he passed November 2, 2022 at the age of 97 when he was reunited with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, as well as his beloved wife, Eunice Bucholz and all loved ones that graduated before him.
John was faithful to stay in touch with family and friends. Being surrounded by those he loved was John’s favorite place to be! John had a keenness of mind, and never lost his sense of humor.
John is survived by his son, John Nolen Bucholz (Lisa), Daughters Carmen Marie Waller (Butch) and Paula Kathleen White. His Stepdaughters; Terry Ann Timmerman (Curt), Diane Marie McIntosh (late Ken), and Vicky Lynn Schmitt.
He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren! God richly blessed John and Eunice with their large, loving and blended family!
Although we are grateful John is dancing in Heaven, he will be truly missed!
