John Anton Grevstad passed away on Feb. 5, 2014, at the side of his devoted wife of 75 years Mary Louise Grevstad. He is preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Christian, and Lars; granddaughter, Julie Grevstad, and daughter-in-law, Judith Grevstad.
John is survived by sons, Larry L. Grevstad (Lorrie), William J. Grevstad, and Christian A. Grevstad (Terry Draheim); grandchildren, Jennifer Dooley (Eric), John S. Grevstad, Karen Kaeo (Shane Kaeo), Tiffany Stetson-Barker, and Lindsay Thompson (Stephen). Grandpa John is also survived by great-grandchildren Emily Fahey (Kyle), Natalie Downs (Nathan), Nicole Dooley, Rachel Dooley, Avery Grevstad, Ian Dooley, Ashleigh Barker, Stetson Thompson, and Samuel Kaeo. Other family members include: TJ Barker, Scot, Lorri, Jeff, Joel, Megan, and Colby Anderson.
John was born on March 31, 1918, in Olalla, Washington after his family immigrated from Sykkylven, Norway. In 1954, he became the captain of the purse seiner the "Seagull" catching salmon in Southeast Alaska. He operated out of Gig Harbor and was a well-regarded member of the commercial fishing fleet. He was fondly known "Johnny Seagull."
A memorial service will held at Rill Chapel 1151 Mitchell Avenue, Port Orchard WA 98336 on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m.
