John W. Hull

John W. Hull, a resident of Bremerton, died December 29, 2017. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois on October 27, 1924 to Chester and Mable Hull. John lived his early years in Seattle on Alki Beach and in 1936, moved with his family to Harper. John attended Harper Grade School and South Kitsap High School.

In September 1943 during the height of WWII John enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and served in Europe with the 94th Bomb Group and flew 34 missions as a B-17 waist gunner. After the war John returned to Port Orchard to start a family with his wife Nina and begin his career with the United States Postal Service, first as a rural mail carrier, then as a postal clerk and eventually earned his opportunity and appointed as the Port Orchard Post Master, serving in that position for many years until his retirement.

John also served his community as a member of the Port Orchard Active Club and the Port Orchard Kiwanis Club leading both organizations as their president. He was a member of the Port Orchard United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.

John was a strict and loving father to three sons, Ron, Rick and Steve. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Nina in 2012 and his oldest son Ron in 2016.

Remembrances may be made to the Port Orchard UMC. A memorial service will be held at Bay Point Retirement Community, 966 Oyster Bay Ct., Bremerton, WA 98312 Saturday, January 6 at 2:00pm.
