John Allen ?Jack? Pykonen, 80 of Port Orchard died at home on May 19, 2008. He was born August 10, 1927 in Tillamook, OR to William Erick & Mary Elta (Sheets) Pykonen. He graduated from South Kitsap HS in 1945 and later received an Associate Degree through work study at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He married Margaret Marie Pier on March 15, 1947 in Port orchard. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Jack worked as a Naval Architect at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton and Supervisor of Ships in Seattle for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 as a Specialist (I) Third Class, earning the World War II Victory Medal.
Jack was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting & fishing, winemaking and CB Radio.
Surviving are sons John (Rhode) Pykonen of Grapeview WA, Jim (Barb) Pykonen of Arlington WA, Erik (Charlotte) Pykonen of Port Orchard; daughters Peggy (Rod) Williams of Bremerton WA and Debra (Sam) Dove of Sequim WA; brother Paul (Sylvia) Pykonen of Bremerton; sisters Patricia Herzog of Everett WA, Shirlie Thorsen of Poulsbo WA, Peggy Covey of Poulsbo WA, Dolores (Ralph) Hilt of silverdale WA; grandchildren Dawn, DeAnna, Eva, Jon, Sylana, Shawn, Harley, Lattie, Erik, Jr., Ryan, Nicole, Makayla & Misty; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother William Pykonen.
