John Johanson

November 22, 1925 — February 13, 2001

John Luther Johanson was born in Seattle and raised in Port Orchard. His family has owned the Port Orchard property since 1934. He lived most of his life in Tacoma and retired in May 1991 moving then to the Port Orchard property. John was blessed with a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing for others. His accomplishments included the following music groups: Cleft Dwellers, Tacoma Little Theater, New Sound Singers, and Tacoma Opera. He also enjoyed singing in the St. Marks Lutheran Church choir and Elim Lutheran Church choir.John's working career started in Public Health at the Pierce County Health Department, and then he worked for 13 years as a Industrial Hygienist in Boeing's Food Service Department. John worked as a Health Care Administrator for several nursing homes over a 15 year period. After working as the administrator for the Harbor View Manor, John retired in 1991. During John's retirement, he remained an active board member at Harbor View Manor, served as President for the Bremerton Sons of Norway Lodge, and continued as a member in the Port Orchard Kiwanis Club.John's family was very important to him with Evelyn, his loving wife of 51 years, four wonderful children- son Harold & wife Leslie, son Gary & wife Yoko, daughter Nancy & husband Greg & daughter Patti; nine grandchildren-Kimiko, Christopher, Miyuki, Christy, Kevan, Katie, Lavena, Hans & Evan. John & Evelyn enjoyed music, which included dancing, lots of singing, and attending their grandchildren's performances.John's message to his family & friends is ''Thank you for the opportunity of life!'' The family thanks God for John who was a great husband, father, teacher, and friend. He will always live on with us through our memories and we look forward to the time when we can be together again.The family will be celebrating his life on February 24, 2001 at 2:00pm at the Elim Lutheran Church, 5911 East Hillcrest Drive, Port Orchard, WA 98366. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Leukemia Assocation, Student Scholarships at the Port Orchard Kiwanis Club, or Elim Lutheran Church.
