John King

John Thomas King, 86, of Port Orchard, WA, died Tuesday,September 11, 2001, at the Port Orchard Care Center after a battle with kidney failure.He was born July 25, 1915, on a ranch near Angora, NE, to John and Dorothy (Wyeth) King. At a young age he helped his father run the ranch.In 1937, he moved with his family to Council, ID. He moved to Port Orchard in 1941. In 1942, he married Mayme Perkins of Council, ID, and made their first home in Umatilla, OR, where he did defense work. They moved to Port Orchard and he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. Mrs. King died in 1944. He ran an autobody shop on Mile Hill Drive in Port Orchard for many years.In 1971, he married Gladys Roseland. They were later divorced, but remained friends. Her family became his family.Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Wyeth King; and three sisters, Barbara Clark, Florence Miller, and Dorothy King Missman.Survivors are one brother, Bill King, of Port Orchard; three sisters, Pat Harms, of Port Orchard, Marianna Simms, of Mount Vernon, WA, and Kathryn Plummer, of Boise, ID; five stepchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.A private family viewing was held on September 12, 2001. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.Memorials may be made to the Kidney Center of Olympic Peninsula, 2740 Claire Ave, Bremerton, WA, 98310.
