John Myhre

April 23, 1921 — March 16, 2007

John Kenneth "Ken" Myhre, Capt. (SS) USNR (Ret.) passed away in early March of 2007 at the age of 85, due to heart disease. Ken was born in Great Falls, Montana in 1921 to Ellen (Stuhlmann) and Asger Myhre who were both immigrants from Denmark. In 1924 the family moved to the Lake Burien area south of Seattle, Washington. Ken graduated from Highline High School and the King's Point Merchant Marine Academy. In 1941, the Navy took over the merchant marine ship he was on and he found himself in the Navy. He spent about two years in the South Pacific and the remainder of the war in the submarine service on the east coast. Upon returning to Seattle, he and his wife, Bonnie lived on Angle Lake in the south Seattle area and made a career in the elevator sales and service business. Upon retirement in 1981, they moved to their property on Hood Canal where Ken designed and built the log house of his dreams - and they lived happily everafter. He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the family home; son Karl (Sherilyn) of Longview, Washington; granddaughter Misa (Mike) Reardon; great-granddaughter Imani Paige Reardon of Longview; and brother Herb Myhre of Santa Barbara, California. He was preceded in death by brothers Clyde & Allen Myhre and his sister Esther (Heidi) Brandt. A celebration of his life will be held at the family home with friends and family on April 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity.
