John T. Naughton III died February 15, 2011 at Washington State Veterans Home in Retsil, WA after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. John was born in Orange, New Jersey on December 8, 1944 to John T. Naughton, Jr. & Eleanor Monaghan Naughton. Growing up, John enjoyed building things, riding bikes, and became quite skilled at pencil drawings. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America in Orange, New Jersey and became an Eagle Scout. John graduated from Saint Benedicts Prep High School, Newark, New Jersey in 1962 and went on to attend Lehigh University in Bethlehem Pennsylvania for five years. He participated in competitive swimming in high school and college. John enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 28, 1969 and graduated from Officer's Candidate School with the top four honors. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of Captain on February 27, 1972. John then worked in technical support in sales of computers. After being diagnosed with MS, John eventually went to live in the Havre De Grace area in 2002 and went on to work at the medical library at Perry Point VA facility in Perry Point, MD. After a lengthy hospital stay in late 2008 and 2009, John was able to go to the Retsil Veterans Home in December 2009. John is survived by his two sisters Patricia Hajduk of Gig Harbor, WA and Eileen Schwanemann of Missoula, MT; niece Katherine Tresidder of Reno, NV; nephew Tom Hajduk of Seattle, WA; and three great nieces and a great nephew. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. A Memorial Mass and service will be held at a later time.
