John Thomas Overton was born June 19, 1943 in N. Attleboro, Massachusetts to Eleanor Raye and James Warrant Overton. He passed away December 23, 2015 in Bremerton, Washington.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for 20 years. Of all his duty stations, he enjoyed 4 years on Guam and 2 years (in 6 month intervals) in the Antarctic the best. In 1972 while stationed in Vallejo, California he met and married Francine Shook.
She and her two children shared the Guam experience, returning to California in 1976. In 1979 John’s next duty station was in the Antarctic. Prior to this assignment, he moved his family to Port Orchard, Washington. Upon his retirement from the military in February 1980, he began working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He retired for the second time after 20 years with Civil Service. John and Francine celebrated 43 years of marriage in November.
In his retirement years he enjoyed doing woodwork, gardening, and going to various casinos.
At his request no formal services will be held.
