John E. Rose, 77, a resident of Port Orchard, died at his home of cancer on September 16, 2007. He was born to Guy and Julia (Schauller) Rose on October 16, 1929 in Ione, WA. John graduated from Hope HS in Hope, Idaho in 1947 and received an AA from Evergreen State College in Evergreen, Washington in 1979. He married Judith Wilder on Sept. 5, 1956. John served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1980 as a Storekeeper, achieving the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was awarded 8 Good Conduct Medals; China Service; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Viet Nam Service; Korean Presidential Unit Citation; Republic of Viet Nam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross) and United Nations Service. He also worked for Honeywell, Inc. at Keyport, Washington for ten years. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Port Orchard and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He enjoyed traveling, genealogy research, walking, camping and volunteering. John was preceded in death by his wife in 1997. He is survived by sons Craig, Steven (Brenda) and David Rose; daughter Debra Rose and 5 grandchildren Crissa, Carli, Jessica, Brooklynn and Lacey all of Port Orchard. Visitation will be at Rill's Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Thursday, Sept 20th from 3-6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gabriel's Church in Port Orchard on Friday, September 21, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Sunset Lane Cemetery.
