John Thompson

December 17, 1949 — July 21, 2009

John Wayne Thompson, the eldest child of John Alexander and Rosie Thompson was born December 17, 1947 in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  He died at his home in Port Orchard, Washington on July 21, 2009. He completed 1st and 2nd grades there, and then his mother moved them to Los Angeles, CA where he completed his education.  While in high school, he lettered in Varsity football as a defensive end and a running back.  Coach nicknamed him "TDT" for touch down Thompson. After high school, John (Tank) enlisted in the Navy, intending to become a "lifer".  While there, he met his "brothers" Chris, Jaja and Zunirat.  Along with Jaja and Sunirat, Tank founded the "POWER UNLIMITED" band.  They were very popular in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Canada.  John left the Navy to pursue a musical career.  During that time, Chris introduced him to Maria Cristina Deleon, it was love a first site, and they eloped!  John gave up music to become a family man; four beautiful children were born to this union.  Shortly after marriage, the family moved to Washington State, where John became a member of Mt Lebanon MB Church and found the Lord. He turned his musical talents to God's service, writing and performing his songs, while his health was failing.  John had many strokes and surgeries and suffered a great memory loss, but his faith never wavered.  He prayed all night and passed in prayer. John is preceded in death by both parents, his wife of 25 years, Maria and his 1st born son, James Eugene.  He leaves to mourn his passing his Uncles Arthel and Charlie, his Aunts BillieJean and Judy, his sister Lotis, his "brothers" Peter H. Christoffersen, Howard E. Gibbs and Darryl A. Goodwin, his children RoseMarie, PeterHenry, ChristalRose, and John Wayne the 1st, his Church family and a host of cousins and friends. Bro. John always greeted and left you with, "GOD BLESS YOU".
