Jon Lawrence Johnson died Dec. 6, 2007 of complications from diabetes. He was born in Minong, WI, on Feb. 20, 1936 to Gus and Cody (Whitman) Johnson. At the age of 14, Jon moved with his family to the Kitsap/Mason area and spent the remainder of his life there. In 1956 he married his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Moore. Jon worked as a carpenter in this area for many years, and was a member of Carpenter's Local #1597, where he was treasurer for a period of time. In later years he was employed by the Edmonds School district as a maintenance carpenter. He loved driving his motor home to go camping and sitting around the campfire telling jokes and reminiscing. He was known for his quick wit and easy banter. His other interests were fishing, hunting, shooting muzzleloaders, bowling, cooking, and traveling. Jon was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Kim Johnson. He is survived by his wife; daughter Dawn Piety (John) of Belfair, WA; son Darren Johnson (Gina) of Palermo, NJ; grandchildren John Piety (Nicole), Blake Piety (Jamie), and Stephen Piety (Michelle), Briana Johnson, Danielle Piety, and Jesse Piety; 5 great grandchildren, Gabriele, Nathan, Tyler, Mika and Connor. A memorial service will be held at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at 3:00 PM.
