Josefina was born on May 26, 1944 to Angel and Alicia (Gustilo) Maduramente in Leganes, Iloilo, Philippine Islands during World War II and the Japanese occupation. Life in those days had many challenges. Her mother’s family, the Gustilo family was influential in Leganes. Early in her life the family moved to Olongapo, which was adjacent to the US Navy Base, where her father had taken a job.
While in Olongapo, Josefina met a young sailor named Marvin Leo Pulley. At this time the Vietnam War going on and the Navy was using the Base there for many things including what R&R they could provide their personnel. After being a couple for a while, they were married on May 15, 1971.
In her youth she loved climbing trees barefoot to get guava and many other things that were part of the joys of Island life. She also began learning to be crafty which she carried into her adult life and loved endowing her children and grandchildren and many others with the products that came from her abilities.
She was very crafty and extremely creative. She enjoyed things like pottery, doll making, sewing, knitting and crochet. She made clothing, and curtains to name a few things. She was also an amazing cook and loved to cook hot meals her family and making sure they had plenty to eat all the time.
Some of her other affinities were fishing as much and as often as she could, playing bingo, and going to the Casino. She also loved camping and she and Marvin purchased an RV so they could travel to their favorite places more easily. Among those places were Rim Rock, WA and Yuma, AZ where they liked to ‘snowbird’. She loved being near the Ocean and beaches. Perhaps her absolute favorite thing wa having the ability to dote over her family, especially the grandchildren.
Over the last couple of years as her health began to decline she moved to the Chula Vista, CA area to be closer to Alicia. On January 30, just a few days ago, she went back into the hands of our loving and merciful God. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.
