Joseph Hovey

August 1, 1945 — October 13, 2011

Joseph Garfield Hovey, 66, a resident of Port Orchard, died of cancer on October 13, 2011 in Bremerton. He was born August 2, 1945 at Encampment, WY to Donzel and Irene (Slack) Hovel. He spent most of his childhood in Olalla with his Uncle Tate and Aunt Murrell Buffington. He joined the Army at age 18, then switched over to the Navy Seabees, serving with them during Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, he became a life member of the VFW Post 2669 for 28 years. He also worked for PSNS as a Pipefitter helper, mostly at the hose repair shop. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his sisters Donna, Korena and Dorothy, and brothers Ted, Vern, Robert and Emory. He was not married and had no children. Joseph also leaves behind many nephews, nieces and friends who loved and respected this talented, inventive, self-motivating and caring person who shall never be replaced. Celebration of life will be Saturday, October 22, 2100 at 1:00 pm at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard with burial following at Sunset lane Memorial Park.
