Joseph Kane

May 28, 1971 — October 14, 2006

Staff Sergeant Joseph M. Kane, formerly of Darby, PA, died on Saturday, October 14, while serving his country outside Baghdad, Iraq, when the vehicle he was riding in hit an improvised explosive device. He was born on May 28, 1971 in Philadelphia, PA. His parents are Joseph and Mary (Reed) Kane. He graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, PA in 1990. Joey joined the U.S. Army in 1991. He served 1 tour of duty in Germany, 2 tours in South Korea and was nearing the end of his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge and multiple other awards. While stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, he met and married Michelle French of Belfair. They were married on April 25, 1998. The most important thing in his life was his wife and family. He loved being a daddy to his three children and spent as much time with Michelle and the kids as possible. He also loved his country and loved being a soldier. He took special pride in his uniform and what it stood for; he strove for excellence and expected his soldiers to do the same. He loved music, especially playing the guitar; he loved food - both cooking it and eating it (pasta was his favorite food); he could always make you laugh with his antics and many voices. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He had an impact on our lives and will truly be missed. Joey is survived by his wife, Michelle, and his three children, Mikayla, Daniel and Brendan Kane, all of Belfair; parents, Joseph and Mary Kane of West Chester, PA; sister, Joanne Vogel and husband Michael and their three children, Michael Vogel, Amanda Vogel and Andrew Vogel of Darby, PA; grandmother, Catherine Reed of Drexel Hill, PA; numerous aunts and uncles. Funeral service will be held at the Belfair Assembly of God Church, 23001 NE St Rt 3, Belfair, WA at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, Burial with full military honors at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
