Joyce Yvonne Oatis

Joyce Yvonne Anderson was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 6, 1945, to Mary Jane Finney Anderson and Lawrence E. Anderson, Sr. After the passing of her mother in 1955, the family moved to Campbell, Ohio where Joyce spent her early childhood and teen years in the loving care and guidance of her paternal grandmother, Mildred Graham Booker. She attended local elementary and junior high schools and in 1964 graduated from Campbell Memorial High School after completing college preparatory classes.

Shortly after graduation in 1964, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland and in 1968 met and married Hershey Andrew Richardson. Hershey and Joyce welcomed two beautiful children, Shawn Anthony, born in 1969, and Renee Yvette, in 1971, the joys of her life.

Joyce began her career as a bank teller in 1973 at Andrews Federal Credit Union on Andrews Air Force Base. She was quickly promoted to Head Teller and rose to the position of Manager of National Accounts before leaving the Credit Union and moving to Seattle, Washington in 1990. She joined Group Health Credit Union (now Salal Credit Union) where she unselfishly served the community until her retirement in 2019.

Joyce continued to live life to the fullest with unshakable faith in Jesus and determination until her last days. Joyce never gave up on herself, or those who entered her life.

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Joyce Yvonne Oatis, made her peaceful transition to be with the Lord, with her brother, Larry Anderson, by her side.

Joyce loved her family dearly. Her children, Shawn and Renee were the light of her life and her relationship with her sister and brother was cherished. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, colleague and friend. She touched the lives of so many people.

Joyce is survived by her brother, Larry Anderson (Ken) of Port Orchard, Washington and sister, Rev. Valerie A. Smith, of Seattle, Washington; son, Shawn A. Richardson (Regina) of Brenham, Texas; daughter, Renee Y. Goss (Wayne H., Sr.) of Clinton, Maryland; grandchildren Bayyinah A. Goss, Wayne H. Goss, II, Giovanni S. Goss, step granddaughters, great grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends spread across the regions of Baltimore, MD, Chicago, IL, Phoenix, AZ, and Youngstown, OH.

A Celebration of Life and Remembrance service for Joyce Yvonne Oatis will be held at Graham Street Church of Christ (3108 S. Graham Street, Seattle, Washington 98108) on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
