June W. Coulter, 102 of Port Orchard, died on June 26, 2015 at Stafford Health Care at Ridgemont. She was born June 1, 1913 in Orient, Washington to Joseph Edward & Myrtha Beatrice (Wheelock) Smith. She married George F. Coulter on March 19, 1938 in Colville, Washington. He preceded her in death September 16, 1985.
June grew up and attended school in Orient, Washington. She graduated from high school in Republic, Washington in 1930. She earned a BA degree in Education at Eastern Washington College of Education in 1939.
June taught school in one and two room schools in Ferry and Stevens Counties. She also taught Home Economics in high school. At the time of her retirement, she was the school librarian for a Jr. High School in Spokane, Washington. She was active in various teacher organizations.
Riding horses was something June loved to do while growing up in Orient. Music was also an important part of her life. She played the violin, piano and organ – playing the piano for grange dances. A sports fan, she enjoyed softball, volleyball and really loved basketball, as she was a player in her college days. She and George were great dancers and liked to travel throughout the United States with her cousin and husband, doing research on family genealogy. She was a very talented artist, painting some beautiful oil paintings. June made gorgeous quilts for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with beautiful dresses for all four of her granddaughters – even a satin wedding dress of one of them. She liked to knit and crochet and never missed “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gold Mountain, Arizona.
Surviving are son George Franklin (Shirley) Coulter of Gig Harbor, WA; daughter Clara June (John) Hauschild of Port Orchard, WA; grandchildren Lorraine (Dusty Ciboci) Mahaffey of Marysville, WA, Sharon (Jerry) Stephens of Port Orchard, Annette (David) Kingsbury of Port Orchard, Gina (Preston) Loveless of Graham, WA, and Chet Hauschild of Gig Harbor; great-grandchildren Preston (Ashley) Mahaffey of Bremerton, Chase (Michelle) Mahaffey of Kent, WA, Clarissa (Jordan Springberg) Mahaffey of Marysville, Amy (Greg) Shurts of Port Orchard, Kristin (Levi) Scaggs of Port Orchard, Bryon Kingsbury of Port Orchard, Brandon (Mandy) Kingsbury of Port Orchard, Derek (Jessica) Kingsbury of Kansas, Danielle (Zac) Becker of Spanaway, WA, Megan (Cory) Yietzke of Roy, WA; great-great-grandchildren Jameson Mahaffey, Madilyn Shurts, Olivia Shurts, Cash Mahaffey, Kayla Becker, Jerid Becker, and Kinlee Kingsbury.
Burial with family present was at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, Washington.
