Kathryn Shoop

July 31, 1920 — March 1, 2003

Kathryn (Kay) Shoop of Southworth died Saturday, March 1, 2003 in Tacoma. She was born July 31, 1920 in Bovill, Idaho to Henry and Alice Taylor. Kay graduated from Roy High School in 1938.Kay worked at the shipyards in Tacoma and at the PX at Fort Lewis during the Second World War. Later she worked at various restaurants in downtown Tacoma. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer chore coordinator for Catholic Community Services in Tacoma.Kay loved and was very proud of her family and enjoyed being with them. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, travel, and reading. She was also an amateur oil-painter and was instrumental in forming a non-profit art society in the Fife/Milton area during the early 70's that allowed senior citizens an opportunity to display their works for sale in various establishments from Federal Way into Tacoma. Several of her paintings were purchased and are in private homes. She was also active in the Federal Way Ladies of Elks during this time.Kay loved the Lord and never failed to thank him many times daily for her blessings. She was a faithful member of Adventure of Faith Presbyterian Church in Port Orchard.Survivors include her husband Don of the home; son Clifford Wilson (Kim) of Olalla; granddaughter Michelle Danks (Bob) of Tacoma; and grandson Brandon Wilson of Ellensburg as well as great-granddaughters Sharla Pyette, Amber Pyette and Kelsey Danks of Tacoma and great-grandson Casey Wilson of Ellensburg. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers Glen and Harold Taylor, and her children Larry and Richard Tyler.Services will be held at the Rill Chapel in Port Orchard at noon on Saturday, March 8, pastor John Foreman of Adventure of Faith Church officiating, followed by burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Tacoma.
