Kenneth Dean Johnson, 87, of Port Orchard, passed away on July 19, 2018 after a short illness. Ken was born on November 30, 1930 in Harvard NE to Everett and Ester Johnson. He graduated from Lincoln NE High School in 1948.
After his marriage in 1951, Ken worked in several positions in Nebraska and Iowa. Ultimately, he became interested in the insurance industry and accepted a position as an automobile claims adjustor. He earned certification as a Chartered Casualty Property Underwriter (CPCU) and in the early 1970’s entered the reinsurance field as a claims manager. In the early 1980’s he moved to Randolph NJ where he worked as a Vice President and reinsurance claims executive for Berkley Insurance Companies. In 1989 he received the inaugural Outstanding Achievement Award from the Independent Reinsurance Underwriters Association honoring his work in developing claims education programs. Following his retirement in 1995, Ken lived in Branson MO before making his home in Port Orchard in 2001.
Ken was a proud member of the Nebraska National Guard, serving for over 26 years before retiring as a Major. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, University of Nebraska football, and was an avid reader. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, sense of humor, and devotion to his family.
Ken is survived by his wife of 67 years Berdine, son Steven and his wife Brenda of Port Orchard, son Tracy and his fiancé Kristin of Chagrin Falls OH; and six grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be conducted in Lincoln NE.
