Kenneth Lancaster (Bill) was born near Gotebo, Oklahoma on April 12, 1925 to Sim and Rudell Lancaster. He spent his childhood on the family farm, along with his two sisters, Marie and Dorothy, and attended Lake Valley School. After High School Bill joined the Marine Corps and served his country from 1944-1946. After returning home, he attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK. In January of 1950, Bill married JoAnn Janes in Cloud Chief, OK. In 1952, Bill and JoAnn moved west and settled in Port Orchard, WA. Bill enjoyed his employment for over 30 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Marine Machinist in Shop 38 retiring in 1982.
One of his greatest enjoyments was planting a garden every spring, and sharing his bounty with family, friends and neighbors. He would tell his life story to anyone who would listen and made countless friends in the process.
Bill is survived by JoAnn, his wife of 65 years, and three children, daughter Phyllis of Port Orchard, son Greg (Kimmie) of Port Orchard, and daughter Cheryl (Bruce) of Graham. Bill also leaves behind five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
A public viewing will be held at Rill Chapel on Friday, 05 June from 3-5pm.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday 06 June, 2015 at the family home located at 5236 Del Tormey Place, Port Orchard, WA from 1-3 pm. Bill was a Seattle Mariner’s fan so feel free to wear your gear.
