Kenneth Benjamin McLean, 78 of Port Orchard, died on Monday, May 19, 2008 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was born in Mineral, Washington on July 25, 1929 to Hiram and Cloetta McLean. The family lived in Sedro Wooley and he spent his teenage years working with his family and grandfather, Benjamin McLean, who owned the Skagit Talc Mine. He joined the Army Air Force on January 3, 1947 serving three years in Japan with the 3rd Maintenance Squadron, repairing damaged airplanes. He came home in 1949 and worked with his family at their restaurant in Retsil. He also worked as a Logger in Oregon, coming back to Washington in 1951 to work at Bangor in the rigging loft. He married his wife Verna of 55 years on June 12, 1953. He then got a job in Seattle working for Van Vetter's Inc., - a sheet metal shop, polishing stainless steel for the next fifty years. He also worked for Seattle Bronze, Alaska Cooper, Aluminum Bronze and Union Manufacturing during that time. In 2002, he went to work for EFS Company, a chrome plating shop in Port Orchard, until May 13th when he became ill. He is survived by his wife Verna ; sons Kevin McLean and Gregg McLean; daughters Cherie McLean and Glory Blacknall, all of Port Orchard; grandchildren Tressie Pommier of Poulsbo, Daniel McLean of Bremerton, Kenny McLean, Jamie McLean, John Blacknall; six step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by step-brothers Darrell Woodard of California, Leonard Hetrick of Port Orchard, and many nieces & nephews. Celebration of Life May 28th at 11:00 am at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard with burial following at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
