Mr. Kenneth A.Thayer, Age: 78, resident of Silverdale, Washington, died at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton on December 23, 2001.Kenneth was born on October 3, 1923, in Elma, Washington, to Lillian(Kimball) and Harry Thayer.He attended Union High School in Port Washington Bay.In 1943, Kenneth joined the United States Army. He served honorably until 1945, achieving the rank of Private First Class. He was decorated with awards of the Bronze Star, European African Campaign Medal, and served in Northern France and Ardennes. He spent forty years as a Mechanical Repairman, retiring in 1988. He greatly enjoyed camping and fishing.Mr. Thayer is survived by his companion of twelve years, Frances Meredith of Silverdale; sons, Denille, and wife, Dorothy Thayer of Bremerton; Jay and wife, LynnStauss of Tucson, Arizona; Pat West of Port Orchard; sister, Evelyn Lawson of Bremerton; nephews, Avery Close, and John Stauss of Silverdale; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His former wife, Helen West, preceded him in death.A memorial service in Mr. Thayer's honor is scheduled at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard, Washington at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, December 28, 2001. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.All arrangements are under direction of Rill Chapel, Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home.
