Kurt Allen Corey joined his bride in eternity on Monday, August 7, 2023.
Kurt was born to Al and Hilda Corey, nee Snyder, on August 21, 1936 in Alaska. Although the young family rejoined the extended Corey & Snyder clans in Tacoma as a response to the onset of WWII, he was forever marked by and a proud native son of Alaska. His beloved little sister Kathy came along a few years later. Kurt graduated from Stadium High School in 1955, where he was on the swim team, and his favorite cars were always convertibles.
Kurt’s first career was in aviation, where he worked as an engineer for Boeing and Lockheed on projects too secret to share with his family. A midlife career change sent him back to school for a Master of Science in Education, with a focus on hearing impaired students. He later got another Master’s degree in Counseling and eventually his Doctorate of Arts in Education. Throughout his adult life, Kurt was also a committed law enforcement volunteer with police departments in Tacoma, Bremerton, Port Orchard, and the Kitsap County Sheriff.
In 1973, Kurt purchased a home on Horseshoe Lake in South Kitsap County. Shortly after that, he met the love of his life. They wed in 1974; they loved the house, the lake and each other for the rest of their days.
Kurt is predeceased by his wife Charlotte. He is survived by his sister Kathleen (Corey Ranard), his daughter Pam (Beltz), son Rhett, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. September 13th at Peninsula Life Church at 6501 147th St Ct NW, Gig Harbor (Purdy), Washington.
