Lanny Gene Thompson, 77, of Port Ludlow, WA died Wednesday, January 31, 2024, as a result of complications following a surgery at Virginia Mason Hospital, in Seattle. His loving and dedicated partner, Diana Brownrigg and family were by his side.
Lanny was born in South Carolina to “Betty” Lucille Johnson Leonard, and Eugene Thompson on September 29, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Thompson, and a newborn child.
Lanny was raised in Gorst, WA and grew up on Quarry Street, attending South Kitsap Schools until 1965. He lived nearly his entire life, in Kitsap County, moving to Jefferson County in 2009.
He was a hard working entrepreneur and was a painter and insulator for many years, working all over the Puget Sound region. Lanny loved the Puget Sound, and would navigate his many boats over the years, all over her waters. Later in life, he enjoyed cruising thrift stores and want ads, always looking for treasures and a great deal. Lanny often enjoyed playing music with the many talented musicians in the Kitsap and Jefferson County region, and sharing that love of music with everyone around him. It was one of the great joys in his life. He often shared his colorful stories of his many adventures with his friends and family.
Lanny had 5 children. One child passed as an infant. Kimberly and Noel with his first wife, Debby McCarty. Amber, and Shane, with former wife Janice Pringle. He fiercely loved his children and grandchildren, always showing up for almost every family event he could.. He could often be seen with a tear in his eye, as he watched the many accomplishments and encounters of those he loved.
Lanny is survived by his partner for 23 years, Diana Brownrigg, Sister- JoSan Comstock (Terry) and Timothy Thompson, his children- Kimberly Adair (Daniel Huckeby), Noel Thompson (Leah Feldman), Amber Perez (Nic Perez), Shane Thompson (Peyton Radford Thompson), Grandchildren- Stephen Stroud, Leah Adair, Nicole Thompson, Stephanie Ascott (JacobAscott), Shawn Thompson, Leo Perez and Athena Perez, and Great Grandchildren- Ryan Stoud and Hadley Jo Stroud, and Sophia Ascott. He is also survived by Diana’s children: Margaret Brownrigg, Alysann Brownrigg, Jeanette Barrett, and grandson Sora.
He is also survived by numerous cousins and extended family.
A beautiful Celebration of Life was held at the Masonic Temple on Sidney Avenue, on February 4, 2024.
The room was filled to capacity, and with the love and stories of the many lives that Lanny touched over the years.
Lanny Thompson, will be forever missed.
