Born in Indiana September 5, 1943, Larry’s family moved to Anacortes during his toddler years. He graduated from Anacortes High in 1961 with his letterman’s jacket and academic honors.
After marrying Madeleine, in 1963 and graduating from College in 1965, he continued his educational endeavors in the mid-west and southeast. While back east he was the minister for churches in Illinois, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Returning to the Seattle area with his Master’s Degree from North Carolina Central University he took the position as Executive Director of the North and East King County Multiservice Agency—bringing services and developing programs to assist those in need.
Larry’s beloved son, Jeffrey, was born in Tennessee. Larry was an extraordinary father—caring for, teaching, and supporting Jeff in many endeavors. From being the parent taking Jeff to the dentist appointment to riding track bikes on the Velodrome in Redmond, Larry was an awesome dad.
Larry was passionate about many things. He loved music: playing clarinet with varied groups, bands, and symphonies, and singing bass in many choirs. Bicycling, hiking, backpacking, and sailing were pastimes, as well as home remodeling and photography. Having a competitive nature he enjoyed the challenge of tennis and pickleball tournaments.
Larry loved challenges. His last journey with dementia has been the most difficult challenge of all. On January 14th, while the sun rose over the Cascade Mountains sending streamers into the sky and rays shimmering on the water, he passed away with his family by his side.
