Larry Dean Smith, "Pickles", 76, of Port Orchard, WA died November 8, 2011. Larry was born December 18, 1934 in South Colby, WA to William and Noma Smith. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1953 and attended Olympic College. Larry married Nina Porter in 1957. He worked as an inspector for the Boeing Company for over 38 years and served on the District Council of Union IAM 751 for 18 years. After losing both legs at the age of 16, Larry served as a counselor for 40 years working with people who were scheduled to have amputations. He loved rebuilding antique cars and was a founding member of the Saints Car Club. Larry was a member of the PO Eagles and enjoyed following the SK football program. Survivors include his wife Nina; children Harvey (Sharon) Smith, William (Cindy) Smith, Gwen (Chris) Jones, Larry Smith, Jr, and Noelle (Keith) Morris; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters; brothers Bill ( Louise) Smith, Grant Smith; sister Jeanette Swinney; and numerous neices and nephews, cousins and special friend Roger Jensen. A potluck gathering will be held at the PO Eagles Hall on December 3, 2011 from noon to 3:00PM. Donations can be made to the Josh Wilson Benefit Fund c/o any Kitsap Bank Branch. Josh was in a serious car accident and is a family friend.
