Larry J. Mead, 64, died at home in Olalla on March 14, 2009. He was born in Lincoln, NE on June 12, 1944 to Warren & Kathryn Mead. He married Cricket, his wife of 44 years, on January 9, 1965. Larry graduated from San Diego State University in 1973 with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice.
Larry worked as a Funeral Director for the past 16 years for Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. He previously worked as Vice-President of Central Operations for North Island Federal Credit Union in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Legal Specialist from 1963-1971.
Larry was an ordained Minister with the Assemblies of God and was currently serving as a law enforcement Chaplain with Kitsap County Sheriff and Washington State Patrol. He was a Senior Chaplain with the International Conference of Police Chaplains and a member of the Kitsap DEM CISM Team. He & Cricket have been involved in a ministry to the bereaved for more than 17 years.
Whether he was helping a bereaved family, preaching your loved one's service, or riding in a patrol car with his beloved law enforcement officers - Larry's life was serving others.
He was pure of heart and had a sweet, gentle spirit that touched the lives of all he met. Larry is at home with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
Surviving are his wife Cricket; daughters Aixa Morales & Maggie (Bob) Watson of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Monique, Tabitha & Michael Bueltel, Ricky & David Perez, Drew & Jacob Watson, all of San Diego, niece Chandra Jeannette of Austin, TX; sister Jean (Jim) Vaughn of Madison, WI; extended family Lee Urton, Ken & Cathy Butler, Jim & Cecilia McCready, his Rill Chapel, support group & law enforcement friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois & brother Jim.
Visitation 6-8pm on Friday, March 20th at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. A Celebration of his Life will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Christian Life Center in Port Orchard. Online memorial at
