LaVerne Ruby Larson Murley sadly passed away on August 31, 2021 at the age of 94 at St. Michael’s Medical Center, after a brief stay. She is survived by her two daughters, Janice Kvinsland and Debbie Barga (Mark), and six grandchildren, Leif Kvinsland (Brooke), Lars Kvinsland (Megan), Britta Keogh (Chris), Ruth Paszkeicz (Anthony), Thomas Barga (Allison), and Mary Barga. LaVerne was also blessed with five great grandchildren, Haakon, Sigurd, and Helle Kvinsland, and Payton and Mason Barga.
LaVerne was born October 30, 1926, on a small farm in Clearbrook, Minnesota, to Ludvig and Emma Larson, the youngest of twelve children. She left the family home at age 14 to live with her eldest sister in Puyallup, Washington, to attend high school and nursing school which was not available to her in Minnesota.
She proudly graduated from St. Joseph Nursing School in Tacoma, Washington, as a registered nurse. LaVerne worked at the Enumclaw Hospital, during which time she met and married Sherril Murley. They moved to Port Orchard, Washington, when expecting their first daughter. LaVerne took a break from working to raise her two girls. Once her daughters started school, she resumed her nursing career at Washington Veterans Home at Retsil. LaVerne worked at Retsil 33 years, tirelessly, spending many years in the position of Director of Nursing, ending her career as the Clinic RN. LaVerne was an outstanding, skilled nurse, with a heart of gold.
LaVerne was a faithful Lutheran and a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard, Washington, for sixty plus years.
Her husband passed away in 1997, after which she lived independently, continuing to lead a full, rich, life as the matriarch of the family. Over the last 16 years LaVerne resided at both Ridgemont Terrace Senior Apartments and Stafford Suites in Port Orchard, Washington. She made many friends, appreciated staff, and considered these places her home. LaVerne showed her generous spirit through cooking, baking, and gift giving. She reached out to help others throughout every season of her life. She was an avid reader and had her favorite authors. All holidays were special for LaVerne and involved decorating, family meals, and celebrating traditions. She had great taste in fashion and enjoyed fine dining with her family.
Her dedication to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was vast and never ending. She will be missed.
There will be an intimate family celebration of life on what would have been her 95th birthday, October 30, 2021. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Community Services Northwest – Bremerton/Kitsap County.
