Lawrence C. Dearth, age 61, died March 24, 1999 in Bremerton, Washington. He was born on December 12, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to John Wesley & Flora M. (Janke) Dearth. He was raised in Detroit graduating from Southeastern High School in 1956. Cdr. Dearth graduated from University of Idaho in 1966 and from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in 1978 with a Masters Degree in Geophysics. He married Merna Chambers in Aberdeen, Washington on July 1, 1960.Cdr. Dearth served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1986. He was assigned to various duty stations throughout the world both ashore and afloat receiving numerous honors including the Navy Achievement with Combat V, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Vietnam, Meritorious Service, and Military Merit. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Commander. His most recent job was with Marconi where he worked for eleven years. He was also a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.He is survived by his wife; sons Jack Dearth of Port Orchard and Bradley Dearth of Grapeview, Brett Dearth of Santa Monica, CA; brother Jim Dearth of Mattawan, MI; sister Carol Jordan of Detroit, MI; grandchildren Larry Dearth of Port Orchard, Jack Dearth of Port Orchard; in-laws Jack and Joy Chambers of North River, Grays Harbor County. Visitation will be at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard on March 29 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard March 30, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Wynoochee Cemetery in Monestano at 2:00 p.m. March 30, 1999.
