Lawrence W. "Larry" Maguire, 72 of Port Orchard, Washington died December 26th of Lou Gehrig?s disease. He was born to Hugh and Irene (Todd) Maguire on March 28, 1934 in Chelan, Washington. Larry graduated from Chelan High School in 1952. After serving in the United States Army in 1953 and 1954 he resumed his education at Central Washington University, graduating in 1964 attaining his Bachelor?s and Masters of Education Degrees. He married Anita Burke in Bellevue, Washington on December 13, 1958. Mr. Maguire served in Quincy, Ellensburg, South Kitsap and Tenino School Districts in various capacities, retiring in 1992. He started as a teacher of Psychology and Physical Education; coached wrestling and football and served as Vice Principal and Principal. Larry was named to the All Conference Football Team for Offense and Defense while at Central Washington; CWU Hall of Fame and Dream Team for Football; WA State and National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame and the Bremerton Athletic Round Table Hall of Fame. He enjoyed finishing antique furniture, loved working on the farm and gardening. He also loved reading and was an avid story teller. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jimmy Maguire. He is survived by his loving wife Anita of Port Orchard; sons Joe Maguire (Theresa) of Lacey, Washington and Patrick Maguire (Debbie) of Tenino, Washington; brother Bob Maguire (Cora) of Fairbanks, Alaska and sisters Doris Jean Stamps (Jim) of Chelan and Mary Baliff (Dan) of Cashmere, Washington; 3 grandchildren Jason and Deanna Maguire of Lacey, Washington and Austin Nichols of Centralia, Washington. Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Rill?s Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Larry Maguire Memorial Fund at any branch of Key Bank.
