Leo A. Hovland

May 22, 1956 — May 8, 2018

Longtime Port Orchard Business owner and resident, Leo A. Hovland, Age 61, passed away May 8th, 2018 from cancer at the Franciscan Hospice House in Tacoma.

Leo was born May 22, 1956 in Williston, ND to Leonard and Laura (Mahlan) Hovland and was raised in Plentywood, Shelby, and Libby, MT. before the family moved to WA State. Before his many years spent in Port Orchard, he spent childhood years creating his favorite "stomping grounds" also in East Bremerton.

Leo is survived by his wife Lisa (Stouffer) Hovland, 2 brothers, Larry (Jean) Hovland, Lyle Hovland and 1 sister Lavonne Carlson. His 3 children; Trevor Hovland, Stacey (Hovland) Serad, and Devon Hovland, 2 stepchildren Mallory Holtquist and Kevin Glazener, with a total of 8 grand-children, 9th on its way. Leo also has many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand nephew and cousins.
Preceding his death are his parents Leonard and Laura Hovland, and 2 sisters, Lola Stephenson and Lori Risk.

Leo can be described as a jack-of-all trades with a dash of rebel and a sense of individuality. Before he worked in the towing industry for the last 35+ years and then owning his own business the last 25+ years, he also worked for the Forest Service in Montana and Brem-Air Disposal in Bremerton. For many years he ran his company 24/7 without a day off just because he loved it. He always said, "If you love what you do, then every day is a vacation!"

Always there to help his customers and community be a little more at ease during stressful situations and always the first to lend out that hand, there wasn't very many sticky situations he couldn't figure out using the equipment he had.
Leo loved his rescue pits, for many years he had a 4-legged co-pilot riding along, navigating his way through many long and rainy nights. Thank you Bo, Buddy, and Charlie Brown for keeping your dad safe.

He had a passion for cars, motorcycles, his dogs, stopping in to visit friends, and life in general. He spent a few years racing Demolition Derby making that a fun family event, along with making sure to contribute to community events and little league sports teams over the years.
He had a passion for the town he lived in and everyone in it, always giving out his version of good advice. Saying, "Do you know why that is making you upset or bothering you?, Because you let it!"

A Celebration of Leo's Life will be held June 2nd, 2018 at 2PM, Rill Chapel on Mitchell Rd., Port Orchard., with a reception following and a motorcycle precession prior to, bringing Leo to his friends.
In lieu of flowers, Leo would appreciate any donations to be made to the Kitsap Humane Society in Silverdale, WA.
