Leonard Schmitz

Leonard J. Schmitz, 91, died at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard, Washington on October 7, 2006. He was born on November 6, 1914 in Perham, Minnesota to Balthasar & Gertrude (Lein) Schmitz. He married Evelyn Mutchler on April 9, 1941 in Port Orchard. She preceded him in death in 1977. Leonard worked as a self-employed Automotive Mechanic for 30 years, retiring in 1970. He was former owner of Richfield Service Station at the corner of Bethel and Salmonberry Road in Port Orchard. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his family. Surviving are sons Ted (Sandy) Schmitz of Port Orchard and James (Gert) Holmes of Lakeland, Florida; daughters Darlene (Roland) Meier of Port Orchard, Sandra Ramsey of Tacoma, Washington, and Nancy (Dick) Heembrock of Port Orchard; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral service is 10:00 am on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Interment will follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park, also in Port Orchard.
